CARICOM

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is a group of 20 Caribbean countries. There are 15 Member States and 5 Associate Members. CARICOM was established in 1973 with the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas. CARICOM encourages cooperation among members in many areas including education, culture, health, security, foreign policy and trade.

The treaty was revised in 2002 to allow the creation of a single market and economy. The Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) promotes trade and economic development of CARICOM and oversees the operations of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
