Boys and girls do not go through the same changes during puberty. Some changes only happen in girls.
What happens to boys during puberty?
- Boys start to produce sperm: Hormones in your body cause the testicles to start producing sperm. The testicles also produce a hormone called testosterone. This hormone causes many of the changes that happen in boys during puberty.
- Boys become more muscular: During puberty, boys’ muscles develop and they become more muscular.
- Deeper voice: During puberty, boys’ voices deepen and they start to sound more like men.
- Facial Hair: During puberty, boys hair begins growing on boys’ faces. Hair grows on the chin, cheeks and just above the lips. The picture below shows a young man with facial hair.
